A Delegation of Pakistani Christians and OPCA Urgently Appeals to European Parliament for Support
The delegation comprising of Watson Gill, Ijaz Mathew Zulfquar, Pastor Imran Gill, Gasper Daniel and Anson Sikandar passionately urged for the recognition of minorities as equal citizens within Pakistan, emphasizing the need to prevent the forced conversion of minority women and the abolition of blasphemy laws. Furthermore, they emphasized the necessity to halt destructive actions like setting fire to minority places of worship and the immediate release of Christians imprisoned in false blasphemy cases.
In an impactful meeting held on Friday, September 8, in Brussels, a delegation representing the Pakistani Christian community conveyed their deep concerns to the European External Action Committee. Their primary focus was the prevailing atrocities against Christians in Pakistan, seeking the intervention of the European Parliament to safeguard the rights of Pakistani Christians.
In a symbolic gesture of their commitment to these vital changes, the delegation also called for the suspension of all forms of assistance, including the GSP plus status, until substantial progress is made on these matters.
The delegation submitted a petition addressed to Mr. Josip Borrell, the High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission, highlighting the urgency and importance of their cause.
This meeting represents a crucial step toward international awareness and intervention, as the European Parliament and its representatives stand as potential advocates for the rights and safety of Pakistani Christians.
